Sports Massage

Engine Room

Despite the name, sports massage isn’t limited to athletes. It’s for anyone whose body is under pressure - from training, desk work, parenting, or simply living in a city that never slows down. Think of it as maintenance: a manual reset for muscles, fascia, and movement patterns that keeps you functioning at your best.

Sports massage therapy is hands-on intervention that works with tension, injury, or immobility. We see runners and lifters, but also office workers with frozen shoulders and people recovering from long-term conditions. If tension is restricting your movement, this treatment can help to address it.

Incorporated into a training or rehab plan, sports massage is one of the most effective tools for preventing re-injury, improving circulation and supporting long-term performance. Our clients call it the best sports massage in London because it’s practical, targeted and focused on results.

This treatment is not suitable during pregnancy. If you’re planning to claim through your health policy, visit our healthcare page before booking.

What’s involved

Sports massage uses targeted pressure to work through restriction and reset movement. Your therapist may use deeper strokes, friction techniques and assisted mobility to help improve circulation, reduce inflammation and encourage tissue repair. You might feel some post-treatment soreness, especially if we’ve worked on long-standing tension. That’s normal. If anything feels off beyond a couple of days, let us know or check in with your GP.

Is it for me?

Sports massage can involve strong, deliberate pressure - never unsafe and always adaptable. Your therapist will check in throughout, and you’re encouraged to speak, shift or respond to instruction and your body’s needs. This is a collaborative treatment, not something done to you.

Results aren’t always instant. Relief may come quickly, but lasting progress takes consistency, movement outside the studio and a commitment to doing things differently. We don’t promise miracles. We work with what’s possible.

This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant. If you're in your second or third trimester, please book our pregnancy massage, The First House, instead. If you’re trying to conceive, you must confirm that you are not currently pregnant at the time of booking.

How to prepare

Hydrate well before your session.

Wear loose or flexible clothing (shorts are ideal for glute and hamstring work).

Complete your consultation form thoroughly in advance of your appointment, so your sports massage therapist can strategise and tailor the treatment to your needs.

How to recover

Post-treatment, mild soreness is common. Support your recovery by:

  • Staying hydrated

  • Prioritising quality sleep

  • Using heat or ice as recommended

  • Your therapist may also suggest strength and conditioning or mobility drills to reinforce the effects of your session. It is important that you routinely do them.

FAQ

  • Similar to a deep tissue sports massage, expect medium to firm pressure. It may feel uncomfortable at times, but never unbearable. Always communicate with your therapist rather than “gritting through it.

  • Yes, but performance may dip temporarily. Athletes often find they need 24–48 hours before peak output returns. Follow your sports massage therapist’s guidance for best results.

  • Frequency depends on your body, training load, and lifestyle. Your therapist will advise, but regular sessions often provide the greatest benefit.

  • Generally we use massage wax during sports and athletic massage therapy. If you need a vegan or allergen-free alternative, let us know in advance.

  • Most clients report improved mobility, reduced restriction, and a calmer nervous system. Some feel tired or sore for a day or two - this is part of the repair process.

  • Some providers (e.g. MediCash) cover massage for sports. Visit our Healthcare page for detailed information and always confirm with your insurer before booking.

Bodied said. Felt. Carried.

  • Second session with Kevin and it was great. He is very knowledgable and easy to chat to (if you want to chat during the massage, which I did) and easily puts you at rest. Focussed on key areas that I needed and definitely felt the benefit! Can’t recommend highly enough!
